The steel industry is a core industry that supplies steel products to a wide range of industrial fields that provide goods and services essential to everyday life. In Japan, annual crude steel production is around 120 million tons. This steel is used as a material in automobiles, ships, buildings, pylons, and numerous other applications where it supports our society in a variety of ways.

Once it has served its purpose, steel is sorted and recovered as scrap, which is then melted in an electric arc furnace (EAF) for recycling, and returned to the society like new. Every year, Japan produces around 120 million tons of steel, some 30 percent of which is scrap recycled by EAF steelmakers.

Steel scrap is a precious resource for Japan, which has few natural resources, Therefore we develop our business as a mission for the creation of a resource conscious, recycling-oriented society by recycling this limited natural resource.

As the core EAF steelmaker of the Nippon Steel & Sumitomo Metal Group, we constantly contribute to the development of the industry as a leading steelmaker of general-shaped steels.

In addition to Osaka Okajima works and Sakai works in Osaka and Nishi-Nippon Kumamoto works in Kumamoto, we own Nihon Steel Co., Ltd. in Osaka and Tokyo Kohtetsu Co., Ltd. in Tochigi as group companies and we recycle around 1.1 million tons of steel scrap annually and return it to the world as new.

We produce a diverse range of steel products including everything from angles and channels, which are mainly used in the construction industry and industrial machinery, to reinforcing bars for architectural and civil engineering, as well as elevator guide rails and both flat bars and square bars.

While we actively pursue high-end features represented by high dimentional accuracy, high dignified surface and high strength, such as manufacturing of elevator guide rails and light rails, we will further enhance the Osaka Steel brand, which is backed by top-quality and delivery, and will supply products that consistently and accurately meet the ever-diversifying needs of our customers.

In the 21st century when global environmental preservation became a common theme in the world, Osaka Steel will continue unceasing efforts to support the creation of enriched lifestyle by providing higher quality recycled steels for the society, while we implement both environmental preservation and corporative activities.

In closing, I would like to take this opportunity to thank all our stakeholders for their continued support.
